Carlos Gomez and Reed Johnson suspended after Braves-Brewers scuffle (Big League Stew)

Carlos Gomez admittedly “pimped it up” when he hit a first-inning home run Wednesday night against the Atlanta Braves . First he admired his shot, then he squawked at opposing players as he rounded the bases. When the benches cleared a minute later, Braves outfielder Reed Johnson ran onto the field and took a swing at Gomez.
For their actions, they’ve each been suspended one game by Major League Baseball and fined an undisclosed amount. Unwritten rules of baseball might have been violated, but rest assured someone will be writing a check.
Both players can appeal, but Mike Vassallo of the Brewers says that Gomez won’t. He’ll miss Thursday night’s (meaningless) game at Citi Field against the New York Mets.
