Dykstra seeks to withdraw no-contest plea in CA (AP)

Former New York Mets outfielder Lenny Dykstra is seeking to withdraw his no-contest plea in Los Angeles on charges of auto theft and providing a false financial statement. Los Angeles County district attorney’s spokeswoman Jane Robison says the office was notified Wednesday that the ex-baseball star has filed a motion to withdraw his plea.

Mets hoping Francisco ends their search (AP)

Given the opportunity, Frank Francisco believes he has the stuff to be a dominant closer. The New York Mets think so, too, and will give him every chance. Pitching coach Dan Warthen figures if the team had a shutdown ninth-inning pitcher all last year, it would have meant at least 10 more wins. With those, the Mets would have been in contention for the postseason rather than 77-win flops.

Mets prospect sidelined by back soreness (AP)

New York Mets infield prospect Reese Havens has been sidelined by a sore back and probably won’t participate in spring training until the weekend. Manager Terry Collins said Havens, a first-round draft pick in 2008, told him Tuesday that the back had been sore for a few days. Collins said the setback is frustrating for both the team and the 25-year-old Havens.

Mets Duda feeling confident at plate this spring (AP)

New York Mets outfielder Lucas Duda admits he was a little intimidated last year when he was called up to the big leagues. He did fine at Triple-A Buffalo, hitting .302 with 10 home runs and 24 RBI in just 38 games. But he struggled in the majors when he got tapped in April for an eight-game call-up to fill in for injured left fielder Jason Bay.
