Five amazing moments in New York Mets history (Associated Content)

They're known as the "Amazin' Mets" for good reason. Throughout their 50-year history, the New York Mets have produced some of baseball's truly amazing moments. New York's baseball team from Queens has reached the World Series four times, won it twice in 1969 and 1986 and made the National League Championship Series three other times. But these five amazing moments seemingly are frozen in time for their magical quality. 5. Dykstra Goes Deep (October 11, 1986) – The Mets have had their share of memorable post-season home runs, but Lenny…

Fan’s take: Though they ultimately failed, for a spring these future busts were kings (Associated Content)

Spring training is a fun time for baseball fans. We get to follow newcomers trying to make the team, and watch returning players work on their form. Often amazing numbers are put up, as unknown players create buzz by hitting, or pitching at high levels, but ultimately spring stats are usually not good predictors of future success, or failures. I offer the following players as evidence of this point: 1. Gabe Gross The former Auburn QB had an amazing spring training for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2005.

Fan’s take: Florida Marlins fans aren’t waiting for 2012 to get excited (Associated Content)

While it will be fabulous to see the Florida Marlins, a team I've rooted for since their inception, get their new retractable-roof stadium finished in time for the 2012 season, I have to take issue with Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald who seems to believe Florida fans are accepting of the idea 2011 shouldn't carry with it any major expectations, as he lays out in his article Florida Marlins Have One Eye on 2012 . Yes, team president David Samson stated, "I think there's a lot of anticipation for next year.

Fan’s take: Opening day for Phillies has interesting look (Associated Content)

With Opening Day set for April 1, the Philadelphia Phillies finally announced their final roster and batting order. Recently, the team said that Ben Francisco will start in right field and Jose Contreras will be the closer. The Phillies released Luis Castillo after a turbulent two weeks. More surprisingly, the Phillies said that Jimmy Rollins will be third, filling the void left by Chase Utley. As a Phillies fan, I am happy with the way the team handled these changes.

Fan’s guide: A guide to opening day 2011 at Citi Field for Mets fans (Associated Content)

There are plenty of signs that prove spring is indeed on its way. The sun stays out longer. The sounds of birds chirping are beginning to fill the air again. Flowers are slowly beginning to spout out of the grass. And perhaps the biggest sign of all that the spring season is underway — baseball has begun again and opening day is officially upon us. On Friday, April 8 at 4:10 p.m., Citi Field, home of the New York Mets, reopens its gates as the team prepares to take on the Washington Nationals in the first home game of the season, ushering in the 2011 season.
